Related British Ports (ABP) is to open a brand new next-generation-ready and open entry cruise terminal for the 2021 cruise season in Southampton.
The fifth devoted cruise terminal on the port will profit from roof-mounted solar energy and also will have Shore Energy connectivity put in.
This additional dedication to sustainable operations on the port will allow cruise ships, with the best onboard know-how, to ‘plug in’ whereas they’re alongside.
Alastair Welch, director of ABP Southampton, mentioned: “We’re more than happy to announce this main advance in our cruise infrastructure on the port, delivering additional entry to Southampton for the business, while supporting our dedication to speed up enhancements in native air high quality.
“This funding is a big vote of confidence in the way forward for cruise in Southampton and we’re excited to be on the forefront of a rising business.”
This funding of greater than £55 million into the long-term way forward for cruise will strengthen the Port of Southampton’s place because the main cruise turn-around port in Europe and the primary departure port within the UK.
